Day 28

110 miles today. The second to last day was rather basic. We started off with deep fog which delayed our start. Even after an hour wait the fog stayed thick so we ventured off with the van as an escort for safety. Wound up outside of Gainesville, Florida. All things are prepped for the Alpha Team to finish the ride Thursday afternoon. Not too late to contribute to MS. Much appreciated.

1. The fog Wednesday morning was very thick. What is unbelievably shocking is that we will have ridden across the entire United States and never once had rain. 29 days and all we had was a 20 minute shower. Imagine that.

2. Had breakfast at a place that had a convenience store attached. One of the unique items for sale were shell animals. Any reader who remembers Pete Struzzieri will remember him for his shell creations. No chance these were as good.

3. Had dinner at a nice restaurant in Gainesville. The server was ridiculously incompetent. Food was good. Made for an odd experience. Lunch was in a one horse town and both service and food were good. Goes to show that bricks and mortar do not ultimately make the difference.

4. Some say the second to last repeat is the hardest. Got that out of the way today. Not that hard and I was happy for the good quality road surfaces and minimal elevation gain.

5. With the finish line less than 24 hours away I am especially pleased this is not an out and back.

6. Several of us took turns pulling today. Nobody stronger than Big Mike but plenty of effort all around.

There will be lots to report after the last day of this journey. My face is even healing so you may see some video. It is amazing how the body heals itself. Special thanks for all the support. My next report will be from the Atlantic Ocean.
